Barney Selfie – Day 26 of SPEC

Not much update today. We are re packed, well fed, well rested and ready for the journey ahead.

Lots of long discussions today about logistics, distance and the time we have remaining. We must increase our the number of nautical miles we travel each day, starting tomorrow in order to reach the South Pole before the close of the Antarctic season. With just over 300nm to go it is a daunting task ahead. I am slow, I recognize that and still fatigued from the travel already completed. My body has not recovered as well as I had hoped but my only concern is that I don’t slow the others down. This weighs heavy with me tonight. We must make good time and I hope I can keep pace. Off now for an early start tomorrow early.

Sending loads of love to you both following everyday. Stay strong . so fantastic to be half way. Sanctuary of that cosy tent looks paradise relief from the great plod, even looking at the pictures is comforting. Last week I had to drag mattress & furniture across frozen garden on the cliff in force 10 gale – shocked at thought of multiplying that tiny effort by your 600 miles. In awe. .Take great great care of yourselves. Grit is not in doubt just hope the way is smooth and trouble free as possible. Shining stars to you both xxxxxx

Rob, I’m right behind you today just as in 1985/6. Yes, a few years older, maybe slower, but just as determined.
Good luck and continued safe travelling to you all.

Rob, I get it, our older bodies feel the pressure more and take longer to recover and the mind game becomes more intense.
Remember the NP in 1989, faced with the same dilemma we bumped up to 12 hours sled towing a day for the last 20 days and you did it brilliantly. Remember that mental strength lad. Oh yes……and you could try some mind travel, Place the mind and soul at the SP and allow the body to ascend in a heavenly fashion, that’s sure to work 🙂 🙂 More strength to you lad.
