Robert Swan to speak in Washington D.C.

Please join Robert Swan in Washington D.C. next week where he will be giving two free public presentations. If you are in the area or know someone that is, we hope you will be able to attend one or both of these events.
“Robert will tell his extraordinary life story of how he experienced first-hand the life-threatening effects of climate change as he became the first person to walk to both the North and South Poles. In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the South Pole, learn how he has galvanized people around the planet to take small steps to reduce carbon footprints and generate demand for renewable energy.”

International Day of Climate Action

On October 24th, citizens of the world will simultaneously gather and engage in community events across the globe to call on world leaders to secure a fair, ambitious, and binding global climate change deal in Copenhagen this December at the UN Climate Change Conference.

Organized by 350.org, an international campaign dedicated to building a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis, Robert Swan will partake in a march across the Brooklyn bridge with other organizations and individuals from across the New York. The New York City event is one of more than 2,000 events in over 150 countries. Images of the events from around the world, including the march across the Brooklyn Bridge, will be featured on giant video screens in Times Square as part of a 350 countdown, and are accessible at 350.org. If you are in the area, come out support 2041 and 350.org, and stay tuned for more in-depth information about COP 15 in the coming weeks.

Starting TODAY, in celebration of the upcoming release of Robert Swan’s new book, Antarctica 2041: My Quest to Save the Earth’s Last Wilderness (available everywhere October 2009) 2041, with Native Energy and Broadway Books, is proud to offer one teacher a once-in-a-lifetime free trip to Antarctica, aboard Robert Swan’s International Antarctic Treaty Expedition (IATE), November 16-30, 2009.

From July 1 through September 4, 2009, teachers or professors can visit the contest website and submit a compelling essay, 500 words-or-less, titled: “Why I want to visit Antarctica this November, and how I plan to bring the skills I learn back to my classroom.”
