Darren McGann and Janet Morris, 2041 IAE 2011 Members

In June, two 2041 IAE Alumni Members Darren McGann and Janet Morris reunited at the Corporate Eco Forum Gala in Washington D.C. “The annual meeting assembles an elite group of senior executives from 18 industries to share insights, collaborate, and innovate” as explained by EcoForum. Janet had won her place to attend the 2041 IAE 2011 Expedition after promising not to buy any new products for a year. She took the stage to tell her inspiring journey after an incredible introduction done by Corporate Eco Forum Founder’s twelve year old daughter, Anjali Rangaswami.

Rob speaks at the Majid Society in Saudi Arabia

On June 5th Rob made his way to Saudi Arabia to do a lecture for the Majid Society, “Strengthening Sustainability through Building Partnerships” at the second Societal Development Forum 2011. While there he was included as a speaker on the discussion panel with the Clinton Initiative and Gates Foundation.

Robert Swan in Singapore at the Vitol Industry Speaker Series

This past May, Robert Swan made his journey to Singapore where he spoke at The Vitol Industry Speaker Series to raise awareness of the 2041 movement. Over 400 people attended the talk held in Singapore, with backgrounds ranging from government officials, business leaders and students. He had a chance to meet up with recent 2041 IAE 2011 Team Member Spencer Yong where they joined on stage to share their individual Antarctica experience as well as spread the message of the importance for young leaders to step up to make changes, and be the role model to champion the cause of sustainability in our everyday lives.

Robert Swan in India

Currently, Robert Swan is speaking at various engagements throughout India. So far, Robert has met with PepsiCo, TATA Steel, Google, the Indian School of Business, Leaps and Bounds, and many schools and universities. The welcome in India has been extremely warm. Large thanks to Chandini Chhabra and many other IAE Alumni for their great support and coordination. We hope to see many of our new friends on the International Antarctic Expedition in March!

International Youth Summit on Energy and Climate Change

Last Sunday, on July 19th, Robert Swan was a keynote speaker to over 300 young leaders from over 30 nations, all participants at the International Youth Summit on Energy and Climate Change. The conference, which aimed towards carbon neutrality, was held at Tsinghua University, in Beijing, China. The IYSECC, which works towards mobilizing the youth generation to play an active role in fostering cooperation towards a low-carbon, efficient, clean, and sustainable future, is the first-ever global youth conference focusing on energy and climate change issues in China.

Robert’s lecture, which touched on his own expedition experience and the E-Base and then culminated in encouraging youth entrepreneurship in the renewable energy sector, was presented digitally, from Australia. By communicating via the internet, Robert’s contribution was both carbon-emissions free and fit in with the conference’s global theme while highlighting the continuing potential for digital collaboration to be a key method of broadcasting the climate change message across the globe.

Several of 2041’s IAE Team China alumni were involved in connecting Robert with IYSECC.

St. Olave’s Grammer School

In mid-June, Robert gave a lecture to students at the prestigious St. Olave’s School in Kent. He spent some additional time with the young students, answering their questions about his accomplishments, goals, and the future of our planet.

The Times Online covered the visit in their ‘Science Central’ section. The enlightening and entertaining article, based on Robert’s Q & A with the students, highlights why Robert enjoys speaking at schools so greatly, while providing a welcome breath of levity to the global warming debate.

On Tuesday, 9 June 2009, Robert Swan spoke at the IABC World Conference in San Francisco, leading a session on Sustainable Leadership. The conference, attended by International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) members from around the world, is the leading international forum of its kind and focuses on latest developments and best practices in the communications field.

Robert’s presentation, focusing on leadership in today’s economy and the importance of promoting sustainability, struck a cord with hundreds of conference attendees.
