Rob meets Alumni at Sony HQ

“Great to meet up with Rob again - he cycled 3 hours to join us at Sony HQ in Weybridge Surrey and was as always in "positive attack " mode. We hope our discussions with Sony lead to them offering camera equipment for Rob's adventures over the next 3 years including 'The Return' in 2013. We also met up with Rob Copsey , the rehab coordinator of BLESMA , a charity supporting service personnel injured in action and their families. Hopefully from this will come a candidate to go on IAE 2012 to Antarctica. A very productive day.” -Andy Cook

Robert Swan in Singapore at the Vitol Industry Speaker Series

This past May, Robert Swan made his journey to Singapore where he spoke at The Vitol Industry Speaker Series to raise awareness of the 2041 movement. Over 400 people attended the talk held in Singapore, with backgrounds ranging from government officials, business leaders and students. He had a chance to meet up with recent 2041 IAE 2011 Team Member Spencer Yong where they joined on stage to share their individual Antarctica experience as well as spread the message of the importance for young leaders to step up to make changes, and be the role model to champion the cause of sustainability in our everyday lives.

Please join Robert Swan in Washington D.C. next week where he will be giving two free public presentations. If you are in the area or know someone that is, we hope you will be able to attend one or both of these events.
“Robert will tell his extraordinary life story of how he experienced first-hand the life-threatening effects of climate change as he became the first person to walk to both the North and South Poles. In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the South Pole, learn how he has galvanized people around the planet to take small steps to reduce carbon footprints and generate demand for renewable energy.”

The Voyage for Cleaner Energy Departs for the United Arab Emirates

On Saturday, 11 September 2010, yacht ‘2041’ embarks on Phase 4 of the Voyage for Cleaner Energy, departing the United Kingdom for the United Arab Emirates where she will inspire youth and leaders alike. The journey from Plymouth, UK will take approximately 50 days transiting the Mediterranean and Suez Canal. Yacht ‘2041’ is due to take part in the Louis Vuitton Race Series in Dubai, and will be able to visit any port necessary while in the United Arab Emirates. Robert Swan would very much like to visit schools, and speak with companies and employees during this period. After this exciting landmark visit to the United Arab Emirates, the yacht will circumnavigate India then visit China before reporting to World Leaders in June of 2012 at the World Summit in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

The Voyage for Cleaner energy is a worldwide lecture series and sailing expedition by Robert Swan and his team at 2041. The purpose of the voyage is to increase awareness about environmental issues related to climate change and inspire young people to lead the way in implementing practical, viable solutions.

“Cool School Antarctica” Premiers in Australia on 25 September

View clips from the forthcoming documentary “Cool School Antarctica,” a film by IAE 2010 participant Liz Courtney. Liz captures the life-changing experience of visiting Antarctica through the eyes of 2009 Australian Idol runner-up Hayley Warner and 40 other young people from 15 different countries. You can view the documentary on September 25 on Foxtel Nickelodeon at 7pm. The film will also be featured at the Toronto International Environmental Film Festival in October, 2010.

Currently, Robert Swan is speaking at various engagements throughout India. So far, Robert has met with PepsiCo, TATA Steel, Google, the Indian School of Business, Leaps and Bounds, and many schools and universities. The welcome in India has been extremely warm. Large thanks to Chandini Chhabra and many other IAE Alumni for their great support and coordination. We hope to see many of our new friends on the International Antarctic Expedition in March!

Robert Receives an Honorary Doctorate in Science

We are proud and delighted to announce that Robert Swan is the recent recipient of an Honorary Doctorate of Science from Durham University. Before Robert embarked on his Antarctic Expeditions, he was a student at Durham, earning his undergraduate degree in Ancient History at St. Chad’s College in 1979.

350 is the most important number on the planet

As citizens of this planet, we need to bring atmospheric carbon levels back down to below 350 –that’s the toughest economic and political challenge the earth has ever faced. 350.org’s big day – October 24th – is almost here (and already IS here in some parts of the world!), and 2041 will be watching along with the rest of the world as more than 4,500 action events unfold in over 180 countries around the globe, all in support of an ambitious, fair, and binding global climate deal from our world leaders.

International Day of Climate Action

On October 24th, citizens of the world will simultaneously gather and engage in community events across the globe to call on world leaders to secure a fair, ambitious, and binding global climate change deal in Copenhagen this December at the UN Climate Change Conference.

Organized by 350.org, an international campaign dedicated to building a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis, Robert Swan will partake in a march across the Brooklyn bridge with other organizations and individuals from across the New York. The New York City event is one of more than 2,000 events in over 150 countries. Images of the events from around the world, including the march across the Brooklyn Bridge, will be featured on giant video screens in Times Square as part of a 350 countdown, and are accessible at 350.org. If you are in the area, come out support 2041 and 350.org, and stay tuned for more in-depth information about COP 15 in the coming weeks.
